Following on from the end of the recent protests in Bangkok , the Thai government is getting back to the serious business of stimulating their economy through major investment in large-scale infrastructure projects.
There is much excitement about the railway projects coming on –stream over the next 12 months, particularly the E & M contract for the new Bangkok Purple Line, which is due to be announced in May. Other projects include;
Mainline · 813km of track rehabilitation currently planned or being implemented · 120 km of track doubling under construction or due for tender in the first half of 2009 · All 4 sections of new 65km Red Line ready for tender or start of construction during next 12 months
Urban · Airport Rail Link due to open in August 2009 · Blue Line extension tenders due for issue during 2009 · Silom Line extension to open by mid-year
